Project Management Professional

Project Management Institute

With more than a decade in electrical construction and a focus on distributed generation and renewable energy, my work spans the full cost lifecycle of a project, from indicative budgets and capital and operating forecasts through bid development, cost controls, and post-project variance analysis.

That experience comes from both sides of the meter, including self-perform engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) and electrical preconstruction across utility-scale renewables, medium and high voltage distribution, data centers, and telecommunications systems.

Utility-side work including project controls and lifecycle estimating for distributed energy resource interconnections, substations, and capacity expansion studies. Every estimate brings together input from developers, engineers, project managers, procurement, and field operations, and turns it into a number that holds up.

Alongside estimating, I build tools that small estimating teams often lack the capacity to build for themselves: calculation engines, pipeline automations, and business intelligence models that bring project data together for benchmarking and reporting.

This work draws on proven experience with the Microsoft Power Platform, Excel, VBA, SQL, JSON, M, Dataverse, JavaScript, and Python to build M365 native experiences, semantic models, data frameworks, Power Pivot back ends, Power BI front ends, and portfolio-level dashboard reporting. The underlying idea is that every estimate is data worth keeping, not a one-off spreadsheet, and the scenario models on this site are built on the same principle.

Experience

Three perspectives on the work.

Each perspective reveals a different part of project cost: how the contractor installs it, how the utility connects it, and how an estimating team compares and communicates the result.

1

Electrical Construction Estimating

Quantity takeoff and pricing for distribution, lighting, site electrical, structured cabling, fiber, DAS, fire alarm, and security. Installation assemblies and labor units stay connected to field conditions.

2

Utility Interconnection & Project Controls

Utility-side work involving distributed energy resources, solar interconnection, substations, project cost forecasting, and the facilities and responsibilities at the point of interconnection.

3

Utility-Scale PV & Storage

EPC cost development for PV, PV-plus-storage, and standalone storage. Scope review, subcontractor leveling, cost libraries, and portfolio reporting support consistent deliverables.

Capabilities

Technical scope, estimating discipline, and information.

1. Systems

Understand what is connected.

  • PV DC/AC Ratings and Collection Architecture
  • BESS Ratings, Loss Assumptions, and Augmentation
  • MV Collection, Substations, and Utility Interfaces
  • Distribution and Behind-the-Meter Electrical Scope
  • Low Voltage, Communications, and Controls
2. Preconstruction

Translate the system into work.

  • Quantity Takeoff and Installation Assemblies
  • Scope Boundaries and Responsibility Matrices
  • Basis of Estimate and Uncertainty Review
  • Subcontractor Leveling and Scope Gap Analysis
  • Capital and Operating Cost Summaries
3. Information

Keep the result traceable.

  • Bluebeam Revu and HCSS HeavyBid
  • Excel, Power Query, Power Pivot, and DAX
  • VBA and Focused Workflow Automation
  • Cost Libraries and Estimate History
  • Power BI and Portfolio Reporting

The connection between disciplines

Construction knowledge informs the estimating basis.

Understand the system, account for the installation, and preserve the reasoning needed for a useful review.
